Video Ringtones
A relatively new addition to the cellular universe has all too predictably popped up; it will, in short order, engulf the cellular world like a firestorm. Video ringtones are a long time coming but as the trendy and the rich saturate the market with video cellular technology, it’s no real shock that video ringtones would be short to follow. While video cellular hasn’t taken over a majority of the market share (yet) there is a very real and very growing movement towards that. Just look at the success of things like You Tube and the glut of video content currently available for your iPod or other mobile device. In fact, streaming video is where people like presidential candidates have taken to announcing things like their potential candidacy. Who wouldn’t want a Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama letting them know that work is calling? You can download video ringtones from many different sources; these can include videos of movies, celebrities, and even, just since early 2007, your own video. This new video service is very fresh, as in early 2007, it’s success or failure should offer a glimpse into the future of where video ringtones may be headed and what kind of a shelf life they have.
One of the greatest movie franchises of the 1990’s was Austin Powers. With Mike Meyers’ many different faces and voices in those films, it’s only a natural progression that he should be one of the first video ringtones available. “Yeah baby!” became an almost ubiquitous catch phrase in the 90’s; everyone knew, no matter how badly you mangled it, what you were going for. Now to have the face, the underscoring music, and the voice of the man himself; people will flock to this. Another popular video ringtone is the Mosquito ringtone. Inaudible to adult ears, this was a great way to psych out teachers and authority figures; the addition of video is a strike back against the kids; even if adults can’t hear it, they can see it. Video ringtones are the next big thing; as cellular technology grows, so grows our appetite for what’s next. Pretty soon, we’ll all be able to send a wink and a smile with our calls across miles to those who matter the most.
